Duty Station

2017 marked the 100th anniversary of Marine Corps Base Quantico in Prince William County. The Commandant of the Marine Corps established Marine Barracks Quantico on May 14, 1917, and it served as a World War I training ground, amphibious operations development center and the original home of Marine Helicopter Squadron-1 (known now as HMX-1).

Today, Quantico hosts more than 28,000 members of our military and civilian and contractor personnel, supporting more than 30 federal agencies.

Quantico is located on the Potomac River about 35 miles south of Washington, D.C. and 20 miles north of Fredericksburg, Va.

For those not living on base, the communities of Dumfries and Triangle lie just northwest of Quantico, and many stationed there live little further north in Dale City or Woodbridge. To the immediate southwest are Garrisonville and Stafford.
